Illeism

Illeism — the act of referring to oneself in the third person. This exhibition invites artists to step outside of themselves and look back in. We're searching for work that examines identity from a distance: self-portraiture that refuses to be flattering, personas and alter-egos, the stories we tell about ourselves when we think no one is listening.

Theme

Identity, persona, and the self observed from the outside.

Eligibility

Open to all artists, all career stages. No age limit.

Accepted media

Painting, drawing, photography, print, sculpture, textile, mixed media, and digital work suitable for print.

Submission limit

Up to 3 works per artist.

Entry fee

Free.

Sales

Work may be offered for sale through MUSE during the exhibition. Artists receive 100% of payment from any sales of their work.

Deadline

Submissions close September 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM ADT.

How to submit

  1. Fill in the submission form below with your details.
  2. Include a link to images of your work (Google Drive, Dropbox, or Instagram).
  3. Include title, medium, dimensions, and year for each piece.
  4. You'll hear back from the MUSE team once selections are made.

Exhibition format

This is a virtual art exhibition. Selected works will be showcased on Instagram and on our website through a virtual gallery.
